Moving into Methodism

Today I officially swapped codes and became a member of the Methodist church.
As part of the service I gave the following testimony. Explains why I think this has been a good move for me:
Today I want to briefly tell you some of my story and how becoming a Methodist is part of the latest adventure [...]

Walking Around Weardale

Today I have been walking. By this I don’t mean a bit of a wander I mean proper 10mile + walking with peeps who take it seriously. Went off to Weardale, (the North Pennines), with the Walking Group from the church I inhabit on Sunday evenings. Have to say it was wonderful. The sky was [...]

Afternoon Tea and the Rabbi

Today I effectively begin with another tea shop review….but for reasons which become clear one with a difference. Then I will move on to another bit of spiritual tourism. Yesterday was one of those days where I went on surreal adventures….although I did get lots of work done first.
Yesterday some friends from my church back [...]

Artex and coke

Sometimes I feel like I am living in a bizarre version of Back to the Future where I am transported back to various periods of time, whilst sharing the company of my 21st century companions. Alas I don’t have a Delorian, just a trusty pair of battered Converse.
Last night I was introduced by some friends [...]

A fear of apathy

Nick Cohen has an interesting article on the Guardian website claiming that the “BNP’s rise is a fantasy created by anti-democrats”. The central argument of the argument is that the BNP is not increasing their share of the vote, and that concerns about the rise of this party are being promoted by those who want [...]

A Correction

Would just like to say I may have been a bit hasty going off on one about the Church of Scotland the other day. Having read one of the reports presented this week which hasn’t made the media, on the subject of singleness and having read the reports of how they have conducted themselves today [...]

An adventure up the candle

Yesterday I discovered smells, but no bells, (apart from those welcoming us in), when I went to listen to a friend of mine preach at one of the college chapels. Not being aware of what I was walking into I felt v. disorientated when it kicked off. My immeadiate reaction was to sit there praying [...]

Bench on the Edge of the World

The bench sits on the edge of the world,
paint peeling, weathered and beaten;
faded marker pen listing some recent visitors.
It sits amid a carpet of greens: grasses, nettles and thorns.
The ugliness and aging disguise the wisdom of
the bench that sits on the edge of the world.
The bench sits on the edge of the world,
greeted by the [...]

Things to concentrate on

Right….it’s going to be a rant and yes it’s going to annoy lots of people. You have been warned, but I’m going to go for it anyway.
According to Not Stupid and others the world is on the brink of total ecological disaster due to climate change.
According to Shnews the situation for refugees in Calais is [...]

Age of Stupid

Tonight I went down to the local library to watch Age of Stupid which is a docudrama featuring Pete Postlethwaite about climate change. It was one of a number of “indie screenings” going on around the country which then logged in for a web cast where Franny Armstrong, (producer of the film) was joined at [...]
