Preperations

***N.b. for those who missed yesterdays post this is the beginning of my lent wiblogging. Fictional exploration of taking 40 days out, please feel free to contribute thoughts on what is going through characters head, etc through comments section***
Ok, better start by explaining how a mad idea in a pub is becoming reality.
We were [...]

Now for something completely different

Ok, today is the end of “normal” service for a while.
From tomorrow I am going to start a spot of creative writing which will last approx 6 weeks. (For those of you who have clicked onto where this is going I want to start on Shrove Tuesday and include the zone of transition + [...]

Cultural Issues

Over the last few years, but particularly the last 6 months I have become v. aware that there is stuff I took for granted as, “the norm” which only happens to seem like that to me because of the denominational/ theological setting I’ve grown up in. Part of this realisation has come from my uni [...]

Back to the roots

Last week, belatedly, came across the Folk Britannia thing on BBC Four. Was v.good and enjoyed the documentary, although realised I would have liked to have seen the earlier bits. Last night they had a concert on as part of the series and it was v.good indeed, and extracts the BBC have put extracts on [...]

Horrible Feeling

Today I went bargain hunting, but it didn’t feel good. A local bookshop is closing down and I went in to see what they had left, (as 50% off academic stuff adds up). Got some useful books. but really felt like I were involved in some v. undignified stripping of a dying / just dead [...]

Forward Planning

Well, we’re almost at the end of February and Lent is nearly upon us, apparently. So quite glad that Surf in the Park has given me a proverbial kick up the backside so I can start thinking about the whole thing in an appropriate way.
She has pointed me in the direction of Christian Aid’s [...]

Final Word on the subject (almost)

Having had a number of reminders in my e-mail today I have finally filled in my voting form for the Lib Dem election.
So as expected Simon Hughes (1), as for the others it was Chris Huhne (2) and Ming Campbell (3).
In no way expect my views to reflect the final result, but reflects where I [...]

Here we go again

Current light reading is Great Parliamentary Scandals by Matthew Parris and Kevin Maguire.
It’s a dip in, dip out type read which makes you wonder how we continue to be shocked or disturbed by the goings on of the great and supposedly good when they appear to have been misbehaving for so long.
I suppose, though, [...]

Sunday

Had a friend down and so headed of to the local CofE with her yesterday as she likes to do Anglican when on holiday.
Have to say I enjoyed it, particularly the printed litergy, the greater sense of awe and architecture. Really realised how much more relaxed I feel when people aren’t clapping when they finish [...]

Mindless Reading

Well have listened to my body and actually stopped over last couple of days. Have enjoyed chilling out reading Sharon Osbourne’s autobiography Extreme, which has been waiting on my shelf since early January.
Is an interesting read, even if language and content is a bit direct at times. Having said that it is tastfully written so [...]
